Gina, nice work. Only major comment-- your use of tense. Should probably be "stood baffled and uncertain of their reasons for protest." Also, why do you think you used the verb "stand" here? What does stand mean in this context? That they were all standing up, rather than sitting down? That they were standing up for something? What do you think you mean here?
